The educational sector is populated by a host of different organisations and individuals with whom the Forum needs to interact.
Ministers and officials in the Department for Education are high on the list of those with whom the SFCF regularly engages. Policy impacts, both in terms of proposed new strategies and actions still needed, are strenuously pressed when the evidence and experience emanating from our members clearly signposts a particular direction.
We also advocate the cause of Sixth Form Colleges with opposition representatives in order to help shape the policy of future governments. Working with MPs whose constituencies house one of our members is particularly effective as they clearly see the community as well as educational benefits that a vibrant and driven Sixth Form College brings.
The SFCF is developing strong relationships with the new Young People’s Learning Agency (the funding agency for all 16-19 education) and, through its long-term relationship with the Local Government Association, is building increasingly close ties with local authority representatives. The Forum works closely with the Association of Colleges and other relevant organisations (such as the Association of School and College Leaders, the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust and the Association of Directors of Children's Services) to promote the particular cause of Sixth Form Colleges.
Finally, the Forum, through its two principal officers, the Chair and the Chief Executive, enjoy positive relations with the key media that covers the sector. The Times Educational Supplement and the education correspondents of the main British broadsheets are important stakeholders for us as we embark on our mission to raise the profile of our small but exceptional segment of Britain’s educational world.
