The structure and work of the Forum and its Council
The membership of the Forum is subdivided into eight geographical regions and one special interest group of Roman Catholic Colleges. Each of these constituencies elects a Principal member and a Governor member to the SFCF Council. They may also elect Sixth Form College representatives to serve on regional bodies such as the Regional Planning group (RPG). Each region organises regular meetings of its members and may organise other events and conferences.
The Council of the SFCF consists of the eighteen people elected by these groups plus three Principals who are co-opted to the Council. This ensures that the Council represents the full range of Sixth Form Colleges and to provide strong links between the Council and the SFCF's Committee structure.
Council meets 6 times a year, usually in London. A typical meeting will review all the major trends affecting the sector and discuss how best the Forum can meet and advance the needs of the membership. With volatile economic and political conditions prevailing just at the time when Sixth Form Colleges are emerging as unique corporations in their own right, there has been much discussion on how members can ready themselves for the new relationship with local authorities, what preparations may reasonably be made for much tighter revenue and capital budgets.
As well as frequent Council meetings, the SFCF also conducts business through a number of committees, information on which can be accessed here.
