The purpose of committee is to work collectively as an advisory and consultative body and provide a voice for Sixth Form College Governance through regional consultation and response.

SFCF Governance Survey 2011 - Report

Terms of reference

  • To meet at least once a term.
  • To agree the programme of work and calendar of meetings.
  • To provide guidance to SFCF and monitor the progress of reviews of Governance in FE / Sixth Form Colleges and other work being undertaken by relevant government departments.
  • To discuss the latest developments in education policy and matters directly affecting Sixth Form Colleges.
  • To establish and keep under review regular Clerks’ Updates
  • To establish and keep under review Clerks and Chairs contact lists
  • To collect and monitor useful data on the appointment of governors
  • To consider and contribute to the development of induction and training materials for Clerks and Governors
  • To be available and respond to matters of particular difficulty, sensitivity or emergency and offer advice
  • To undertake tasks delegated to the Committee by SFCF Council.
  • Agendas to be set by the Chair in consultation with the Secretariat.
  • Minutes to be circulated to members for comment within 3 weeks of the meeting date.
  • Membership should include representatives from SFCs who are active in the role of Governor, Chair of Governors or Clerk.
